Stamford Park Family Fun Day is on the Way

Date Released - 03/04/2023

FUN will be the name of the game on Sunday, April 23, when Stamford Park hosts its annual family fun day.

Offering a great chance for people to get together and relax in the open air, it runs from noon to 4pm, and shows off the flagship Victorian Park in all its glory.

Visitors can make the most of the fine facilities including the water feature, the boating lake, aviary, and the Highfield Pavilion café with its wide range of refreshments. A new addition this year is the seven-stage Edwardian walk which allows people to compare sites in the present-day park with the way they looked at the start of the 20th century.

There will be lots of mostly free entertainment such as face painting, birds of prey, crafts, a climbing wall, music, crafting, a magician and walkabout acts – all against a colourful backdrop of spring flowers.

Bring your bike along for an MOT and TfGM’s Dr Bike mechanic will fix minor repairs to have your bike feeling like new.

Pets don’t miss out, either. There’s a fun RSPCA dog show with lots of classes including waggiest tail and best biscuit-catcher. Entry is £2 per class and registration takes place from noon with the show starting at 1pm.

A Tameside Council spokesman said: “We’re looking forward to great weather and a great day with lots of families enjoying Stamford Park in all its springtime glory. Most of the entertainment is free and there’ll be lots to do and see.”

As parking near Stamford Park is largely residents-only, visitors are encouraged to travel in by public transport. There is a small council car park at the Mellor Road – Darnton Road junction.
